Canada has reported the first new confirmed sighting of Asian giant hornets in North America this year in Langley, British Columbia.

A resident stepped on a specimen on May 15 and reported it to the BC Ministry of Agriculture. The next day, officials collected and confirmed that it was indeed an Asian giant hornet.

Canadian officials are conducting further testing to determine if the specimen was a queen, if so whether it was mated, and also DNA testing in an effort to determine the geographic location of its native origin.

This weekend the Washington State Department of Natural Resources received numerous reports of signs posted at trailheads throughout western Washington claiming Asian giant hornets were nesting in the area. The signs are Fake. They were not created by DNR or any other state agency.

Not only are signs fake, but almost all the information on them was incorrect.
