ELLENSBURG, Wash. – KOMO News reports a fugitive who is the subject of an extensive manhunt in the wilderness area around Blewett Pass has now been charged with the murder of a missing Kent man who was last seen near that area over a week ago.

Kittitas County sheriff’s officials said a murder warrant was issued Friday for the suspect, Jorge Alcantara-Gonzalez, who is now suspected in the homicide death of 41-year-old Ian Eckles of Kent.

Eckles’ vehicle and another stolen vehicle were found in the Mineral Springs area of Kittitas County a few days ago after Eckles went missing. Alcantara-Gonzalez is suspected of stealing those vehicles and numerous other thefts and burglaries in Kittitas County, including the theft of firearms.

The murder charge was filed against Alcantara-Gonzalez after investigators found evidence in Eckles’ vehicle leading them to believe he was the victim of homicide.

Alcantara-Gonzalez so far has been able to elude law enforcement officials who have been searching for him for several days.
