PORT ANGELES – Port Angeles School District students will most likely head back to school in the fall with a mix of in-person and distance learning.

The school board today takes up a proposal that students be divided into two groups. The “A” group would attend school in person Mondays and Thursdays. The “B” group would attend school in person Tuesdays and Fridays. Wednesdays and days when not “in person” would be distance learning days.

The proposal comes after surveys and talks with teachers, staff and parents searching for ways to comply with social distancing and other requirements due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to the altered schedule, staffing will be reduced in buildings. Schools are also mandated by local and state health officials to conduct a health screen on all students and staff prior to entering the buildings. Masks will be required for all, and desks will be six feet apart.
