KITSAP COUNTY – Update on a story we reported Tuesday about a couple being sought by federal authorities for burglarizing Kitsap County-area post offices.

The Kitsap Sun reports that 41-year-old Christopher Smith, was arrested in Port Angeles and later booked in the Kitsap County Jail.

His partner Travis Louise Brannan, who was identified by authorities with the last name of Reyes, told investigators she received bank cards from a third person, a “co-conspirator” with Smith.

Using the bank cards, stolen from post offices, Brannan said she and Smith bought lumber from hardware stores. One victim said $2,000 was spent on their stolen card at the hardware stores.

Smith was charged Wednesday in Kitsap County Superior Court with second-degree burglary and second-degree identity theft.

Smith could also face charges in Clallam County after a deputy here initially arrested both Brannan and Smith last weekend for investigation of using a stolen credit card to pay for a KOA campsite on O’Brien Road. The two were then given a court date and released.

A person identified in court documents as a “co-conspirator” confessed to investigators that they and Smith had burglarized post offices in Keyport, South Colby, Grapeview in Mason County and Lakebay in Pierce County.
