PORT ANGELES – Port Angeles Firefighters quickly doused a fire on the roof of the Machine Shop at the high school early this morning.

Investigators say the fire was contained to the roof before it could spread to the interior of the building, and the building has been judged as still safe to occupy, with only a small amount of roofing having been removed by firefighters.

Although fire officials would only say that the cause of the fire is still being investigated, school officials have told us that the fire may have been started by a mortar firework. District personnel this morning were searching other buildings for any other firework debris.
