PORT ANGELES – Clallam County now stands alone as the county with the longest streak in America of correctly choosing the President of the United States.

According to an article in the New York Times by Reid J. Epstein, voters in Vigo County, Indiana and in Valencia County, New Mexico, who have been picking winners every 4 years since 1950s, held the previous record. But in this election both of those counties chose President Trump by double digits. Quoting the website Ballotpedia, which tracks U.S. political statistics,  the article says that leaves Clallam County with the longest streak in the country with 11 straight elections, dating back to the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980.

As it stands, President-elect Joe Biden leads in Clallam County this year by just over 2,400 votes, with an estimated 4,300 ballots left to count as of Friday.

But President Trump would have to pick up over 80% of the remaining ballots to take over the lead here, which is not likely statistically.

The Times article suggests that Port Angeles will now become a destination for some political reporters 4 years from now.
