PORT ANGELES – COVID-19 is putting the stop to a Port Angeles tradition.

This year’s Operation Candy Cane will not happen on the city’s streets.

For decades, the Port Angeles Fire Department and volunteers have driven Santa around town in a decorated fire truck encouraging residents to bring food donations as they cruised through the neighborhood. The donations would go to the Port Angeles Food Bank.  Due to the increase in DOVID-19 cases, the fire department has implemented strict regulation on interactions with its employees. They want to keep the first responders safe and ready to assist and not sick with COVID-19.

This year, the fire department is asking you visit the Port Angeles Food Bank’s website or text candycane to 44321 and make a monetary donation.
