CLALLAM COUNTY – Clallam County PUD has declared a Stage 2 Drought Response and is requesting that water customers in the Carlsborg, Evergreen, Fairview and Panoramic Heights water systems begin voluntary water conservation measures.

Last week, Washington Gov. Inslee declared a statewide drought emergency citing low snowpack and low river flows. According to the District’s Drought Response Plan, a drought declaration meets the criteria for a Stage 2 Response for all of the District’s surface and ground water systems.

The objective of the Stage 2 plan is to encourage customers to conserve and to prepare customers for additional drought response measures later in the season.

Some ways customers can reduce their water consumption include:

  • Reduce outdoor water use.
  • Fix all leaky faucets and toilets.
  • Take shorter showers, not baths.
  • Install low-flow showerheads and faucets.
  • Operate automatic dish and clothes washers only when full.
  • Use water efficient appliances.

Water Conservation Alerts have not been issued for the Gales Addition, Mt. Angeles or Monroe Water Systems. These systems rely on purchased water from the City of Port Angeles, which has so far not issued any conservation alerts.
