PORT ANGELES   — Could Port Angeles’ Civic Field get a modern, video scoreboard.

The city’s parks and recreation director says “yes”, but it’ll take a volunteer effort to make it happen.

Corey Delikat says he’s been approached by a local resident to start a fundraising effort to replace the decades-old scoreboard at the city’s stadium with a more modern version that would include a large video display capable to playing highlight clips and other features.

“A young lady, her name is Catie Chance, and her mom came to me and really want to get a video board at Civic Field. It is something that we’ve been trying to work on, but it’s just not a real big priority. And so they created ‘Score One for PA’, and they are going to help fundraise and we’re going to work on this project over the next year,” said Delikat.

Delikat said for that kind of scoreboard to be effective though, they might need to move the location of the scoreboard. That could impact some of the uses at Civic Field, especially soccer

“We’re looking at the location right now. Where we want to place it might not be able to work, just because we have soccer on Civic. But with everything that we’re doing partnering with the school district and they’re building new fields there be the potential that we don’t have soccer on Civic, and it would be primarily baseball and football. So we could be moving the scoreboard more towards the east side of the field, so it’s more in line with the grandstands,” said Delikat.

Delikat said the effort to get a new scoreboard may still be months off, but he hopes some progress on the fundraising can start soon.
