PORT ANGELES – Unemployment rates ticked up in Clallam County last month.

According to the state Employment Security Department, the county’s rate rose to 5.8%. That’s up from 5.5% in July.

The number of people employed went down between July and August. The overall labor pool also shrunk at the same time.

Last August’s unemployment rate is four percent better than in August of 2020, when it was 9.7%.

Jefferson County’s unemployment rate last month ticked up slightly to 5.3%.

The statewide unemployment rate is at 5%.

The unemployment rate reflects the number of people who have filed first-time jobless claims or are continuing unemployment benefits.
