PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles School District is turning to retired and volunteer medical workers to help keep schools open in the pandemic.

The district is handling its own COVID-19 testing and contact tracing.

But Superintendent Marty Brewer says that’s leading to a need for more help. And they’re specifically asking for those with medical or nursing backgrounds

“We are requesting retired and part-time nurses that maybe want to help with keeping our schools open in the pandemic on a temporary fashion. We need your help. We could utilize your skill set, to help us with some contact tracing,  communication, and also testing,” said Brewer.

Brewer says the tasks now are falling more on other staff and that’s pulling them away from other duties. If you’re qualified and interested contact the school district through their website at portangelesschools.org.

So far, the district has not had any outbreaks and has reported 31 cases since school started three weeks ago.
