The big crash you heard last night around 9 pm was the #1 ranking of the Skagit Valley Cardinals as Donald Rollman’s Peninsula Pirates men upset the Cardinals 68 – 55, or was it an upset.  The Pirates lead for most of the game leading 33 – 27 at the break and looked just as fast, athletic and had more muscle as this was a complete team win. Rayshawn Harris, a 5’10” Freshman from Cleveland High School of Seattle, came off the bench and buried the Cardinals with a game high 19 points to go with seven boards in just 16 minutes of playing time. Roosevelt Williams, a 6’3″ Freshman from Perth, Australia, scored 16 points to go with seven rebounds and KeAndra Hunter-Holiday, a 6’5″ Freshman out of Battleground hit for 14 points and pulled down six rebounds. The Pirates only had 6 turnovers and played lights out man to man defense that completely frustrated the Cardinals offense. The Pirates now 1-0 in conference play and 9-4 overall travels to Bremerton Saturday to take on Olympic.

There was no upset as the 5th ranked Lady Pirates played like they were the 5th ranked team and blew out Skagit Valley 68 – 41.  The pillaging Pirate full court press produced more turnovers than a sidewalk bakery. The Cardinals had more than two dozen turnovers. The Pirates jumped out to a 19 – 9 1st period lead. Once again former Port Angeles Roughrider Sophomore point guard Emilia Long stole the show. Long hit for 11 points, had five steals and five rebounds. Ituau Tuisaula a 6’1″ Freshman out of Soldonta, Alaska cleaned the glass with six rebounds and 11 tough points in the paint. Kelli-Jade Smith a 5’9″ Freshman out of Hilo Hawaii hit for 11 points had 4 steals to go with four rebounds. The Pirates are now 1 – 0 in conference play and 10 – 2 overall.

High school basketball action tonight the Port Angeles lady Roughriders travel to Silverdale to take on Olympic while the Roughrider Boys are hosting Olympic.

The red-hot Sequim girls travel to Poulsbo to take on North Kitsap while the Sequim boys host North Kitsap.
