schreven-pursuit

PORT ANGELES – A Renton man that Port Angeles police suspect fired several rounds of ammunition Wednesday at about 1:00am near 3rd and Lincoln is in custody.

Witnesses reported the suspect vehicle was last seen heading southbound on Lincoln Street. About an hour later, a former PAPD officer spotted the suspect driving erratically on Front Street. When an officer and a deputy tried to stop him, he took off.

Unlike some previous situations, this time the officers were allowed to pursue him because Drive-by Shooting is listed as a violent felony, and they had reasonable suspicion to believe the driver was impaired.

The pursuit went through downtown and south on Valley Street where an accidental collision occurred between the suspect vehicle and a pursuing PAPD vehicle. This stopped the pursuit long enough for the other officers to arrive and use their vehicles to pin the suspect in, with assistance from Lower Elwha officers.

The suspect, 28-year-old Joshua Schreven of Renton, a convicted felon, was found to be in possession of a Glock 9mm pistol and was arrested after a brief struggle.

Schreven’s girlfriend, who is eight months pregnant, was in the passenger seat of the vehicle during the pursuit.
