OLYMPIA – Clallam County community event organizers scored big in the latest round of State grants from the Department of Commerce.

The pandemic relief and recovery grants will provide much-needed support to what’s called “legacy-level” events. Those are festivals, holiday celebrations, cultural events, music festivals, and street fairs that have taken place for five or more years in communities with populations of 100,000 or less, like Port Angeles.

$3.3 million was awarded to 36 counties in collaboration with the Washington Festivals and Events Association and Arts WA. Grants ranged from $178 to $35,000 and were based on need and demonstrated losses due to the pandemic.

Local recipients include, Sequim City Band, Sequim Irrigation Festival, Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce, Olympic Flight Museum, Olympic Music Festival, The Makah Tribe, Juan De Fuca Foundation, Extreme Sports Park, Dungeness Crab and Seafood Festival, Clallam County Parks, and the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce.

In total, $173,000 went to Clallam County events and organizations.
