PORT ANGELES – Police activity in the neighborhood, led to a short lockdown of Port Angeles High School yesterday afternoon.

It started about 12:30 when Port Angeles Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at the Welcome Inn Trailer Park along Highway 101 in west Port Angeles.

Police learned the suspect fired a gun inside a trailer during the disturbance and fled in a vehicle. They say the suspect drove evasively and officers lost sight of the vehicle briefly in the neighborhoods south of Lauridsen Boulevard. They then received confirmation that the suspect had a lengthy criminal history and was prohibited from possessing firearms.

With assistance from citizens in the area, the officers learned the suspect drove into the Canyon Edge neighborhood, which is a series of dead-end streets. As a precaution, Port Angeles High School locked down while there was police activity in the area.

Police eventually used spike strips and vehicles to block the street and arrested the suspect out of his vehicle when he tried to leave the neighborhood. The suspect was booked into the jail. The investigation continues.
