SEQUIM – The situation could have been worse for a Sequim family Friday night when their multi-story house caught fire in an upstairs bedroom.

While Clallam District 3 Fire crews were on their way to the house on Oak Court at around 7:30pm, the family of 8 all managed to get out safely.

The arriving crew found smoke billowing from the second floor of the house and started applying water, eventually fighting the fire from inside as well.

Fire Chief Ben Andrews reports, “Other than the fact that there was a fire, everything went right. The residents called 911 quickly, they evacuated everyone from the house. No one was hurt and the damage was limited.”

Chief Andrews says there were working smoke detectors and many of the rooms had their doors closed, which limited the amount of smoke and heat damage to the rooms adjacent to the room with the fire.
