LOCAL SPORTS: Busy high school hoops action this week

PORT ANGELES — It’s a busy schedule for area high school sports teams over the next 3 days.

The Port Angeles boys basketball team has a very important game at Bainbridge tonight. A Roughrider win keeps their Olympic League title hopes alive with the big game against North Kitsap Thursday night. The Sequim boys host North Mason tonight at 7 pm and with games up next against Kingston and Olympic the Wolves have a great opportunity to wrap up a district playoff spot.

In a game you will hear tonight on KONP, the 2nd ranked 14-0 Sequim Wolves girls travel to Belfair where the Wolves will be big favorites over the North Mason Bulldogs. The only other 2A unbeaten team in the state is 16-0 defending state champion Ellensburg. In a game played earlier this year, Sequim beat the Bulldogs 53-27. The Wolves led 29-1 after the 1st quarter. In the 2nd quarter the Wolves played their entire 2nd unit off the bench  for the entire quarter outscoring the Bulldogs 7-4. The Wolves are scoring 55 points per game compared to the Bulldogs 40 points per game. The Bulldogs are 4-6 in league play and 7-6 overall. The Bulldogs are a game ahead of Olympic for the 4th and final district tournament spot. Jolene Vaara is leading the Wolves in scoring at 18 points per game followed by Jelissa Julmist who is averaging 12 points per game and 7 rebounds per game. Tonight’s Les Schwab Tires pre-game show starts at 5:15 pm with the tip off at 5:30 pm.

The Bainbridge at Roughrider girls basketball game scheduled for tonight has been rescheduled to February 4th at 1 pm.

The Roughrider gymnastic team will host Kingston tomorrow at 6 pm.

In swimming, the Roughriders will host Kingston Wednesday at 3:30pm.The Sequim Wolves will host Klahowya at 3 pm.

In wrestling action on Wednesday, the Roughriders will travel to North Kitsap with the start time at 7 pm.  The Sequim Wolves wrestlers will host North Mason tomorrow night at 6 pm
