PORT ANGELES — A mobile home was destroyed by fire Saturday east of Port Angeles.

About 9:15 AM, Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue was dispatched to 4th Ave and Beech Street in the Gales Addition area.   Port Angeles Fire Department crews were also called in for mutual aid. Upon arrival, crews found a mobile home fully involved in flames. Two people in the mobile home were able to escape. All the occupants made it out safely.

Clallam 2 Fire Rescue Chief Jake Patterson says the first engine company began knocking the fire down from the exterior of the structure.  When additional personnel arrived they made entry to complete and confirm that there were no additional occupants. Two cats in the house died.

The occupants report that there was no power to the structure and when they came out of a rear bedroom, noticed fire down the hallway from the front of the house. Patterson says preliminary investigation shows the point of origin was around a fireplace which was the only heat source.  There were combustible materials around the fireplace which likely ignited which then spread to other materials inside the residence.  There were no active smoke detectors reported and the fire is considered accidental.
