PORT ANGELES, Wash. – Beginning next week, Olympic National Park will start an $11 million renovation of the Hurricane Ridge Day Lodge.

Park officials said in a press release that in order to ensure the safety of National Park Service staff, contractors, and visitors, Hurricane Ridge will be closed to the public from Monday, March 27 through May 25. That means closed to vehicles, bicycles, and hikers. Park officials said the closure will allow for the safe and efficient staging and setup of vehicles, supplies, and equipment,

The project, which is funded through the Great American Outdoors Act, will include extensive rehabilitation to the building’s interior and exterior, will bring the lodge into compliance with current codes and accessibility standards, and ensure proper weatherproofing.

Temporary restrooms will be available at Hurricane Ridge when it reopens in May, and park rangers will be available at a temporary station to answer questions.

Visitors to Hurricane Ridge are strongly encouraged to use the Clallam Transit bus service from downtown Port Angeles to Hurricane Ridge. The Hurricane Ridge Mountain View Café, Gift Shop & Rental Shop will be closed. Visitors should plan ahead by bringing their own food and drinks.
