BELLEVUE — The Port Angeles Roughrider fast pitch team, picked by most fast pitch aficionados to win the Olympic League championship, again have not disappointed their fan club. The Roughriders woke up early Saturday morning with the first pitch at 9 am at Bellevue Community College to take on an Ellensburg team that made the trip to Selah for last year’s state tournament. The Roughriders dominated the Bulldogs 10-0. Cheyenne Zimmer was outstanding on the mound pitching 5 innings of shut out baseball, striking out 4 and giving up just 2 hits.  Kennedy Rognlien went 2 for 2, Abby Kimball went 2 for 3 and Natalie Robinson hit a home run.

The Roughriders had their second challenge of the season beating East Valley of Yakima 12-10. Zimmer again earned the win. Lily Halberg went 3 for 4, Taylor Worthington went 3 of 4, Abby Kimball went 2 of 4 and Rognlien went 2 for 4 and was singled out by skipper Morgan Worthington as having an outstanding day at the plate and defensively at 2nd base. Rongnlien, the highly touted and energentic freshman 2nd baseman, gave Roughrider basketball coach Mike Poindexter some important minutes off the bench in this year’s basketball season and is part of a highly competitive freshman class.

The Roughriders are now 6-0 and have a big game tomorrow at Olympic.  Olympic, North Kitsap and Sequim are expected to battle it out to try and stay with the Roughriders in the league standings. The Roughriders are averaging 13 runs a game and giving up just 4.

The Sequim Wolves 2-1 on the season have a big game at North Kitsap on Tuesday.

In baseball action today, the Roughriders are at North Kitsap with the first pitch at 4:15 pm.

In tennis action, the Roughriders are at home with Kingston and Sequim is at Olympic. Both matches start at 4 pm.
