OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK – The Clallam County Search and Rescue teams have been activated to locate a lost hiker in the area of Slab Camp in the Olympic National Park.

On Wednesday, June 7th at about 6:15 pm, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office was notified by Olympic National Park Rangers of an overdue hiker. The hiker is identified as 44-year-old California resident Hunter Fraser. He left his vehicle at the Deer Ridge Trailhead on Monday with the intent of hiking a 40-mile trek with two overnights.

Officials expect it was likely some kind of loop, but the exact route is unknown. Fraser’s family last had contact with him via text Tuesday morning. He was supposed to be back in Seattle by midday on Wednesday.

His vehicle was located by a Clallam County Sheriff’s Deputy near Deer Ridge Trail in a dedicated parking area. Clallam County Search and Rescue was activated and there are two teams currently searching the area.

Fraser went out with a well-supplied gray backpack and has a teal 1-person Mountain Hardware “Solitude”-brand tent. He is described as an extremely experienced solo hiker. Fraser is 6’4” tall, trim build and typically wears glasses.

If you or anyone you know has been up in that area and may have seen him or have information about his whereabouts, please notify Clallam County Sheriff’s Office: (360) 417-2459 option 1.
