Two arrested in vehicular assault investigation

Port Angeles – Two men were booked on weapons and other charges Monday after a traffic stop that stemmed from an assault and attempted kidnapping incident from the previous week.

On Wednesday, April 2 shortly after midnight, Officers responded to the area of Race and Lauridsen to a domestic disturbance. They learned that a man driving a black Cadillac had intentionally struck a woman riding her bicycle that night. The suspect then stopped, got out, physically attacked the woman and tried to force her to get into the car.

When that didn’t work, he fled the scene in the Cadillac. Then, this Monday, again just after midnight, Officers were near Francis and Lopez when they located and stopped the suspected Cadillac. The man being sought from the earlier case was now the passenger, and the new driver was wanted on an unrelated Burglary warrant.

Both suspects were armed with loaded semiautomatic pistols. After a brief struggle the passenger was arrested, and the driver was arrested without incident. The original suspect, 26-year-old Isaiah Hylton, had 8 prior felony convictions and was prohibited from possessing firearms. Also found in the vehicle were drugs and related items. He was booked for assault of a police officer, along with firearms, vehicular assault and kidnapping charges.

The driver, 24-year-old Austyn Cox, was arrested on controlled substance and concealed weapon charges, and had a felony bench warrant.
