SEQUIM — Three people were injured in a two-car crash that closed U.S. Highway 101 in both directions east of Sequim late yesterday afternoon.

The Washington State Patrol says 75-year-old Yvonne Newton of Sequim was driving north on Palo Alto Road and tried to turn west onto the highway when her Subaru Outback pulled into the path of an eastbound Audi Q5 driven by 46-year-old Paul Swisher, also of Sequim.

Both vehicles were totaled and came to rest blocking all lanes. Newton, Swisher, and 47-year-old passenger Tamera Anderson were taken to Olympic Medical Center with injuries.

Troopers say all three were wearing seatbelts, and drugs or alcohol were not involved. Newton was cited for failure to yield.
