PORT ANGELES — Residents of the North Olympic Peninsula can expect a warm and slightly smoky week as wildfire smoke from British Columbia drifts into Western Washington.
The National Weather Service says smoke should remain mostly aloft, creating hazy skies rather than major air quality concerns across Clallam and Jefferson counties. Temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 70s and 80s through midweek, with inland areas possibly seeing highs near 90.
While Eastern Washington continues to deal with much heavier smoke from active wildfires, forecasters say air quality on the Peninsula should remain relatively good.
A change in the weather could arrive Thursday as the remnants of a tropical system move toward the region, bringing a chance of showers or thunderstorms and some cooler temperatures heading into the end of the week.
