Port Angeles – A Port Angeles man was sentenced on July 28 to serve 23 months in state prison after pleading guilty to five felonies including Attempted Burglary, Harassment/Threats to Kill, Assault, and more.
The case began on February 22, just before noon when Port Angeles Police Officers were dispatched to a reported assault on the 1200 block of East Front Street. There were 3 primary 9-1-1 callers. One caller reported that a man had walked up to a vehicle, struck the driver through the opened window and was now trying to break the window a church. The second caller reported that the same person had broken a window at a pizza store, attacked and injured a person in the parking lot, and was armed with a knife. The third caller reported that the man had smashed the window of a marijuana store with rocks and was now attempting to force his way into the store.
When officers and Sheriff’s deputies responded, the man was non-compliant and did not immediately surrender. Officers used both a Taser and 40 mm “sponge round” gun and were eventually able to subdue him without injury.
The investigation showed that there were 3 separate crime scenes, two buildings and one vehicle damaged by the suspect and one person who was assaulted. An elderly male was seated in his truck waiting for his wife to bring out a pizza when the suspect attacked his vehicle with a rock, broke the driver’s door window and then attacked the driver. He was struck in the head and torso multiple times, and was transported by ambulance to the Olympic Medical Center.
The suspect was identified as 34-year-old James Robert Lundstrom of Port Angeles.
Officers were assisted in their investigation by video from several businesses.
