PORT ANGELES – A Coast Guard helicopter and crew from Port Angeles diverted from training to help rescue an injured woman from Sucia Island.
Yesterday afternoon, the crew took the 69-year-old woman aboard and flew her to emergency services at Bellingham Airport.
The helicopter crew was diverted from a training exercise and was instructed to retrieve a stokes litter from the Port Angeles air station to use during the medevac and arrived on scene at 12:48 p.m.
An aviation survival technician was lowered down to the injured woman to help assess the injury and prepare the woman to be hoisted.
Sucia Island is in the San Juan Islands National Monument.
