PA man assaulted with rock at concert

GEORGE, WA – A Port Angeles man was hit in the head while attending a concert at the Gorge Amphitheater in central Washington.

Joe Allen, Jr. of Port Angeles says he was enjoying the Phish concert Saturday night when he was clobbered in the head from behind. The 46-year-old says he wants to find the person responsible.

Allen underwent neck surgery Wednesday and has a long recovery ahead. His friends have set up a GoFundMe account to help him cover medical expenses.

Grant County Sheriff’s spokesman Kyle Foreman says Allen and another man were attacked about the same time but a good distance apart. The other man, Samir Poles of Colorado, says he was struck in the face by a man holding a bowling ball sized rock.

Foreman told KONP that authorities are aware of speculation on social media that alleged neo-Nazis were responsible, and that one man with swastikas was interviewed but did not appear to be involved. Both victims were African American.

There are no suspects, and detectives are asking witnesses to come forward.
