CLALLAM COUNTY – Parking areas along the Olympic Discovery Trail have become hotspots for vehicle prowls recently, and the Sheriff’s Office is getting the word out.
Since August 1st, Deputies have investigated 18 car prowls; 10 of which have occurred at parking locations along the trail.
The break-ins range from the Olympic Adventure trailhead near Mile Post 59 on Highway 112, all the way to Diamond Point Road. Vehicles parked along West Hendrickson Rd and Whitefeather Way in Sequim have also been entered.
In the majority of these crimes, thieves have broken out one of the windows to gain access.
Deputies have increased their patrols along the trail, and have deployed remote surveillance equipment in these areas.
The Sheriff’s Office is reminding folks to remove valuables from your vehicle before leaving it unattended. And remember, the trunk of your car is not a safe place for storage. Once they’re in the car, they can usually access the trunk.
