Port Angeles declares water shortage

PORT ANGELES – Low water flows in the Elwha River have prompted the city of Port Angeles to put water restrictions in place.

Yesterday, the city announced a “stage two” water shortage. That means the city is encouraging immediate voluntary reduction in water.

The city is asking residents to reduce the frequency and volume of lawn watering and limit it to early morning or evenings. You should also wash your car less, and  be cognizant of other ways to reduce water use.

Flows on the Elwha have fallen bellow 400 cubic feet per second for more than a week. After three days at that level, the city automatically triggers its water response plan. The city gets it water from the river.
