PORT ANGELES – The city of Port Angeles agreed on a final sale price for a downtown piece of property to the Lower Elwha Tribe.

The tribe plans to build a four-star hotel on the parcel along Front Street.

Yesterday, the city council approved selling the surplus property for $300,000 and a $650,000-dollar credit. That credit is to cover cleanup of petroleum contamination discovered at the site.

The council voted 4-2 for the agreement. Council members Jim Moran and Cherie Kidd voted against.

Tribal officials say they hope to start site cleanup and site preparation by this winter.

The city declared the property at 111 East Front Street surplus in 2008 and authorized its sale. Until recently, the buildings were being used by Budget Rent-A-Car, Dungeness Bus Lines and Cockadoodle Donuts.

The tribe wants to build a multi-story four-star hotel with an indoor restaurant, an outdoor restaurant, meeting spaces, and a bar.
