SEATTLE – Authorities say a potential suspicious device seen underwater along the base of Pier 55 on the Seattle waterfront was deemed harmless.
The U.S. Coast Guard said Monday afternoon that a 150-yard safety zone that had been created, which included closing the Alaska Way viaduct, was removed.
The Coast Guard said earlier that divers from the Global Diving and Salvage company reported a potential suspicious device at about 11:30 a.m. Monday.
It hasn’t been made public what they determined the device to be.
The state ferries continued to run as scheduled from nearby Colman Dock at Pier 52.
