PORT ANGELES – Port Angeles firefighters battled a blaze at Sunrise Meats Saturday night. The alarm came in at 11:10pm.
Crews arrived to find smoke issuing from the building and evacuated the neighboring apartment buildings. They extinguished the majority of the fire from the exterior, entered through the front door and went into the basement to extinguish the remainder of the fire.
The Port Angeles Police Department provided traffic control as eastbound traffic was detoured on 1st street. City Light also responded and shut off power to the building.
As an investigation continued, Chief Ken Dubuc told KONP the business owner was getting the shop checked out by inspectors with the hopes of opening as soon as possible, since the fire was extinguished with minimal damage to the structure. (Photo by Jay R. Cline)
