PORT ORCHARD — A 7-year-old boy who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt was killed when he was ejected from a minivan as it crashed on a rain-slickened SR-16 near Port Orchard.
The car hydroplaned, lost control and hit the guardrail Monday night.
Trooper Chelsea Hodgson says the vehicle was going too fast in the rainy conditions and lost control.
Troopers say the 7-year-old was sitting in the third-row seat and wasn’t buckled in at the time of the crash.
The impact sent him out the right rear window and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Four other children in the minivan, ranging from ages 6 to 12, were not injured, nor were the man and woman in the front seats.
All six were listed as wearing seat belts.
The WSP is asking anyone who witnessed the crash or may have encountered debris from the crash to please call (360) 473-0141.
