PORT ANGELES – The Port Angeles School Board meets next week to figure out what to do about those snow cancellations.
The state is offering waivers of snow days during the snow storms earlier this month. But districts still must meet a mandated 1,027 hours average.
Port Angeles schools superintendent Marty Brewer says he doesn’t think PA schools will have a problem meeting the hours requirements. But he says a bigger conversation about the appropriate number of days students ought to be in schools needs to happen.
In addition to extra snow days, the district also had to cancel classes last fall when paraeducators went on strike. That’s put pressure on the number of days still available as make ups.
Brewer promises the graduation date will not change this spring…
The PA school board meets on February 28th.
Sequim school’s officials say they plan to file for waiver of days. In a letter to community, superintendent Gary Neal said the district will proceed with the state’s waiver program.
