PORT ANGELES – Port Angeles School Directors are considering an idea for utilizing available space at the Lincoln Center that could be of benefit to the community.

The idea is to make space available, at a reasonable cost, to community-based agencies that hold a similar vision for children and school families.

Caring for Kids, a non-profit clothing closet at the Lincoln Center, is one good example of such an organization for school families.

Run by two PASD parents Jessica Johnson and Jen Riffle, Caring for Kids maintains a wide range of quality clothing for K-12.

They began on an on-call basis.  Now they open the closet each Tuesday and Wednesday from 12 noon to 4 p.m.

Other agencies at the Lincoln Center on W. 8th Street are AmeriCorps, PASD Teaching and Learning staff, Parents as Partners, ESD #114, Caring for Kids, Peninsula College and the Clallam County Economic Development Corporation.

As a cost saving measure, district support staff from the Central Services building may be moved over as well.

District Superintendent Marty Brewer says it’s his vision to make space available at the Lincoln Center to organizations like the clothing closet that offer resources to school families.
