Port Angeles man charged with stalking

PORT ANGELES – A 19-year-old Port Angeles man has been arrested and charged with Stalking after being seen on a surveillance camera trying to enter an occupied home.

Mason Coppage is the former boyfriend of one the home’s residents. Just after midnight on Monday, Coppage could be seen via cell phone from another location trying to break into the house in the 2000 block of E. 5th Avenue while the resident’s child and father were home and unaware of his presence.

A responding deputy and a police officer found Coppage on the back patio. Coppage at the time was under a Restraining Order that prohibited him from being within 500 feet of the home and having any contact with the reporting party.

He was transported to the Jail booked into custody for Violation of a Protection Order and Stalking.

There was already an investigation from earlier this month where the same house was broken into a computer accessed. Officials believe it was to unblock Coppage from being able to maintain communication with the resident on social media sites.

During questioning, Coppage admitted to accessing the computer and was subsequently booked into custody for Residential Burglary and another Stalking charge.
