Update on search for woman missing from Lake Crescent

PORT ANGELES – The latest report from the National Park Service on the search for a missing Federal Way woman who disappeared after going for a float in Lake Crescent on Memorial Day has the US Navy and the Coast Guard continuing their aerial searches.

Park Rangers used underwater sonar mapping and remote operated vehicles, or ROV’s, to identify what they think would be the highest probability search areas for the Kitsap County Dive Team, and a boat from the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office joined the search effort on Wednesday.

Olympic National Park’s acting superintendent Lee Taylor says divers were able to reach depths of 100 feet. She says Park Rangers have also requested an ROV with special equipment from Glen Canyon National Recreation Area that will allow them to explore even deeper into the lake.

35-year-old Lena Lang was last seen in the 5:00 hour on Monday of this week after going out on the water with a small inflatable raft. Reports say winds pushed her along the water towards Barnes Point, out of view of others on the lake. Her overturned unicorn raft was last seen on the west side of Barnes Point.
