PORT ANGELES – Clallam 2 Fire Rescue crews battled a 2-story house fire Sunday evening.
The residents of the home on Lilac Avenue near the intersection of Mt. Pleasant and Highway 101 had evacuated the house by the time firefighters arrived, around 7:30pm, to find smoke coming from the windows and doors.
Initial reports were that a dryer fire had spread to the laundry room, but crews found the smoke was actually coming from a small basement under the laundry room. They were able knock down the flames and contain the fire to that area.
Their investigation points to the fire originating somewhere near a water heater in that room, but the exact cause of the fire was unknown at the time of this writing.
One occupant of the house was evaluated by a crew from Olympic Ambulance for possible injuries but was not transported to the hospital. No other injuries were reported.
