Clallam County, City of PA getting closer to deal with Port in relocating EOC

PORT ANGELES – Clallam County Commissioners met with county and city officials Monday morning to further discuss moving the County’s Emergency Operations Center to a Port of Port Angeles building next to the airport.

The Port has offered to lease a section of the building, formerly occupied by Westport Yacht’s cabinetry division, at a cost of $7,500 per month.

At the same time, the City of Port Angeles is negotiating with the County to move the 911 dispatch center, which is managed by the police department, into those offices as well.

Commissioner Mark Ozias:

“What we’re really striving for is engaging all of the partners in such a way that the collaborative nature of the project will ultimately be something that reduces overall expense of the system because we will be better coordinated and minimizing duplication of effort.”

Ozias says the next step is for the City Council to consider the proposal, probably at their regular meeting on July 16.

Part of the discussion is about whether the County would lease the building from the Port and then sign a sub-lease with the City, whether both parties would be on the lease together, or possibly some other arrangement.

The two parties will also have to decide how to split the cost of the lease and building renovations.
