PA man arrested in machete attack

PORT ANGELES – A man who police say confessed to attacking a woman with a machete on Sunday and then stealing a car to get away has been arrested.

Deputies were called to a home on Lee’s Creek Road in Port Angeles at around 1:00 pm, where they found a woman with significant lacerations to her head and back caused by an intruder with what is described as a machete affixed to an axe handle.

A witness told them the attacker was 37-year-old Anthony Cousins of Port Angeles, and a search began for the suspect. Meanwhile, a neighbor called in to report that a vehicle had been stolen from his property. That vehicle was later found abandoned on Arnette Road in Port Angeles.

At around 11:00 pm Sunday, Port Angeles Police Officers located and arrested Cousins at the AM/PM store in Port Angeles. Cousins was questioned by the Sheriff’s office and eventually confessed to stealing the vehicle and assaulting the woman on Lee’s Creek Rd. He was booked for Assault, Burglary and Auto Theft.
