Biker arrested after chase across five counties

SEQUIM – A motorcyclist is in custody after leading State Patrol Troopers on a chase across five counties.

Troopers say the chase started west of Sequim Saturday. The 38-year-old man from Newport, Oregon was seen driving a 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle 76 mph in a 55-mph zone on U.S. 101.

A trooper stopped pursuit a few minutes later as the motorcyclist used the oncoming lane and shoulders to pass other vehicles.

A State Patrol airplane picked up the chase and relayed positions of the motorcyclist to troopers on the ground.

The pilot tracked the motorcycle through Clallam, Jefferson, Mason, Thurston and Pierce counties.

The rider then abandoned the motorcycle in Steilacoom. He was later arrested after fleeing on foot.

Joshua Kay booked into the Clallam County Jail for investigation of felony eluding, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.
