Crews called to possible fire at PA Visitor Center

PORT ANGELES – Fire crews were called to the Port Angeles Visitor Center Tuesday afternoon after reports of a fire.

People there report the smell of something burning and saw smoke.

Port Angeles Fire Department personnel arrive about 5 pm and cordoned off the streets around the downtown waterfront location.

Crews appeared to be heading to the basement of the building at one point.

But according to Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce director Marc Abshire, a cigarette butt apparently was tossed by the back door.  Wind flared it up on the door frame and bottom of door.

He says there was minimal damage and no one was hurt.

The chamber has its offices in the building and will be open as normal Wednesday.
