PORT ANGELES — A six-car accident blocked Highway 101 near the Elwha River bridge late Wednesday afternoon.
State Patrol Trooper Chelsea Hodgson says nine people were involved and four were taken to the hospital with injuries.
The collision occurred on the Elwha River Bridge in an active construction zone about 3:30 pm.
Hodgson says five vehicles were at a stop for the construction crew. The 6th vehicle, driven by 22-year-old Donovan Murphy of Port Angeles, rear ended one vehicle, pushing it forward into the next, creating a domino effect.
Hodgson says Donovan was detained for investigation of driving under the influence. He was not injured in the crash.
Passengers in the other cars ranged in age from one to 69 years old. 28-year-old Alexandra Perryman and a one-year-old and 8-year-old child in her vehicle were injured and taken to Olympic Medical Center. 66-year-old Randall Shields of Granite Falls man was taken to OMC.
