SEATTLE — The Tacoma, one of Washington State Ferries largest vessels, was taken out of the water Monday to be fixed for repairs.
A spokesman said it struck something under the surface, shearing off the so-called dunce cap that covers the end of the propeller shaft.
The boat was dry-docked at Vigor Shipyard on Harbor Island, which is the only spot in Washington large enough to carry the vessel.
This is the first time The Tacoma was taken out of service since 2015.
Spokesperson Ian Sterling said the idea is to get the Tacoma back on the water by Friday before the Labor Day Weekend.
