Boat belonging to family of late crab fisherman sinks on Oregon Coast

COOS BAY, Ore. – KOMO News reports a commercial fishing boat lost on the rocks near the entrance to the Coos River this weekend belonged to the late Joshua Porter, originally from Joyce, Washington.

Porter died along with two others in the Mary B II tragedy off Newport in January of this year.

A Coast Guard helicopter crew rescued two men from a jetty early Sunday morning.

The men had jumped into the water and climbed onto the jetty after the 54-foot Fearless II became disabled and drifted onto the rocks, the Coast Guard said. One man suffered abrasions and a laceration, the other was uninjured.

The Fearless II belonged to Porter and was being moved for sale.

Porter, who was 50, had been living in Toledo, Oregon but attended elementary and high school in the Crescent School District in Joyce.

On January 9, authorities recovered the bodies of Captain Stephen Biernacki, James Lacey and Porter after their crab boat was reportedly hit by a set of massive waves.
