SEQUIM – A newly-formed group calling themselves the Independent Advisory Association will be hosting a town hall meeting in October for candidates running for Sequim City Council. The group was co-founded in February by former Clallam County Commissioner Jim McEntire and Clallam County Republican Board member Donnie Hall, who told us why they formed the group.
“We’re trying to improve governments and Clallam County. We’ve got a training camp. I call it basic training for people that want to be candidates, but they don’t have any experience and they’re more like citizen legislators then professionals. We’ve put a few candidates through it and it seems to be helpful and we’re also doing other things. This town hall is one of the things that we’re trying to do.”
Until this week, four candidates running for Sequim City Council were doing so unopposed. That changed on Wednesday when Sarah Kincaid filed as a write-in candidate to challenge incumbent Jennifer States. The other candidates include incumbent William Armacost and newcomers Troy Tenneson and Tom Ferrell.
Hall says the event’s format will not include questions taken from the audience. Hall himself will be moderator, and the scope of the discussion will be limited to three topics. They are: Sequim’s role in the future of John Wayne Marina, development of workforce housing in Sequim, and the coming Medication Assisted Treatment center.
The town hall will be in the Sequim Civic center on Wednesday, October 9 at 6:30pm.
Due to limited seating, public participation will be limited to Sequim residents and members of the press. Again, no questions will be taken from the floor.
