OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK – Hurricane Ridge Road is back open for business after closing Saturday morning due to ice, snow and a rockslide that blocked the road.
A road crew has been working all morning on the slide that occurred below mile 14.
Four inches of snow were measured in that area after the Friday flurries, and ONP’s Penny Wagner says it looks like even more snow fell higher up at the visitor’s center. We asked if she’d been up there yet to see for herself.
“No, I haven’t been up there yet, but when I checked the webcam this morning I could see the ice, and we got down pretty cold last night. So that was another thing that they were looking at, making sure that their road conditions were good. So hopefully people can get up and check out the snow, and it should be really beautiful views as well. And we just recommend that everybody, as always, use caution as they head up and pack a coat because it’s going to be chilly up there.”
Wagner reminds visitors they can get recorded weather and road updates by calling 360-565-3131.
