Son found not guilty by reason of insanity in father’s murder

PORT ANGELES – A Port Angeles man accused of murdering his father has been found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Yesterday, 30-year-old Shay Darrow was ordered committed to a state psychiatric hospital for an indeterminate amount of time.

The prosecutor and defense agreed Darrow suffers from severe mental illness and both sides had recommended the judge find Darrow not guilty by reason of insanity.

Darrow agreed he killed his father, Clint Darrow, but it was determined Shay Darrow’s severe schizophrenia played a role in murder. In January 2017, the elder Darrow was shot eight times at a house the two shared on West 9th Street.
