No one hurt in chocolate-covered pretzel mishap

LACEY, Wash. – A semitruck slammed into a train trestle early Tuesday near Lacey, spilling its cargo of chocolate peppermint covered pretzels and sparking a closure of the road and the railroad tracks.

Deputies found a semi rig at the scene with its trailer ripped open and its cargo of pretzels scattered all over the roadway.

There were unconfirmed reports that a car was struck by the wreckage, but its occupants were unhurt. The semi driver also was uninjured.

A preliminary investigation found that the semi driver proceeded forward under the trestle even though the trailer was too tall to fit under it. She was cited for negligent driving and failure to obey warning signs.

The pretzels were donated to a local food bank.
