SEQUIM – Cranksgiving is back in Sequim this Saturday for the ninth year in a row, and again this year, Port Angeles in getting in on the action.

Bicycle riders of all ages will set out at 9:00 with $20 in their pockets to ride from store to store collecting goods for the Sequim Food Bank. Tom Coonelly explains.

“It’s like a scavenger hunt, right? So, we will provide a shopping list, which we get from the food bank every year, and it’s the items that they have the most demand for. And we’ll give everybody that first thing in the morning when they start out. The 20 bucks is to buy the food with basically, and we ask people to buy one item or more at each of the four stores in town, and then get back to the start. You can go as many times around as you can. We limit it to an hour, and we’ve got all kinds of prizes for people that…”Most Food” and “Fastest Back”, that kind of stuff.”

Coonelly says entire families with their kids join in, as well as seniors and everyone in-between.

Bring your bicycle helmet for safety and gather at the Sequim Food Bank on Alder Street starting at 8:30.

Again this year, bike riders in Port Angeles will have a Cranksgiving of their own.

“Starts at 10:00 at the Port Angeles Farmers Market at the Gateway Center. There are prizes and trophies in Port Angeles as well as there are in Sequim. This is our ninth year in Sequim. It is the second year in Port Angeles, and we’re really excited to have some competition, frankly.”

Again, Cranksgiving start time in Sequim is 9:00 am at the Food Bank on Alder, and 10:00 in Port Angeles at the Farmers Market in Gateway Center.
